Plastic CNC machining service

CNC Machining in Plastic is different from metal machining, with different design limitations and guidelines.

CNC Plastic Materials

Plastic materials work with CNC machining because they can be solid and machinable. Below are the material options we offer for CNC plastic materials.

Applications CNC plastic machining can be used for any project from prototypes to production runs. It is an alternative to injection molding processes.
  • extremely durable materials
  • wide range of applications
  • low cost for design testing
  • design limitations
  • some projects better suited to 3D printing
  • warping can occur from machine heat

Available materials

Nylon 6

Nylon 6 is high in strength, durability, and toughness. It has a particular high hardness and shock resistance in dry and low temperatures. It has a decent UV light resistance level and is water resistant.

Plastic ABS

This material has excellent hardness and strength properties, and at a low cost. ABS is easily machined and is a good substitution for injection molding projects. With applications in consumer products and the automotive industry, it is a popular material.

Plastic PTFE

As one of the highest temperature resistant materials, PTFE isn’t as precise as some other materials. It is also biocompatible, which makes it a great material for food-safe products and medical devices.

Plastic UHMW

UHMW has an extremely high abrasion-resistance, with excellent toughness, and is suitable in a number of applications. It does not do well when continually under stress. UHMW is often applied in automotive and marine industries.

Polypropylene is great for mechanical parts and moving pieces. It also has electrical properties and absorbs little moisture. One challenge that may be encountered is its tendency to melt during machining.

Delrin is a good alternative material between metal and plastic. It has excellent hardness properties and can maintain its properties across a huge range of high and low temperatures. Delrin is often found in door parts.

  • FAQ 1: Do you offer CAD design work?

We have an in-house CAD file designer available to hire starting at $50/hour. Email [email protected] for more information.

  • FAQ 2: What CNC processes do you offer?

We have CNC milling machines and CNC turning lathes.

  • FAQ 3: What types of finishes do you offer for CNC parts?

We can leave your parts as-machined, or andonize, powder coat, bead blast, or hard coat andonize them. You can specify the finish you want when placing your order.

  • FAQ 4: What CNC material types do you offer?

We can produce CNC parts in a number of metals or plastics. View our whole list of materials here.

  • FAQ 5: Do you offer rush production?

Rush production is available for CNC orders. You can specifiy rush production when placing your order.

  • FAQ 6: What process is CNC considered to be?

CNC is considered to be a subtractive process, since it works by cutting away at a block of material to form the desired object.

  • FAQ 7: What does CNC stand for?

CNC means Computer Numerical Control. This refers to the manner in which a computer is programmed with numbers to create the part.
